The Sun Is Often Out - The Longpigs
The Sun Is Often Out was The Longpigs
Debut Album in 1996.The Band uses a traditional rock set-up and
throughout play in a bouncy britpop style. Overall The album is
really enjoyable, there is a good blend of sad and happy, serious and
jokey. It is soon clear that Crispin Hunt has a real skill in writing
lyrics as they really flow throughout every song.
When going through the songs, the
Longpigs show many different personalities in a way for example “Far”
is a really lively upbeat song even though the lyrics are quite sad
and heartfelt but then listening to “On & On” the whole scene
is very mellow and uplifting. For a debut album their overall sound
sounds very steady and established maybe what you would expect from a
band after 2 or 3 albums but also varied. The band displays their
tones and feelings really well like in “Happy Again” as a lot of
humour is put in the song without making it sound stupid and
ridiculous. “She Said” has a very good structure and a memorable
chorus .Also the dramatic ending, where the whole song resorts to
chaos, is quite unique and clever. The band do display some sort of
early Radiohead influences which in a sense isn't a surprise as they
done a lot of support acting for them.
The Sun Is Often Out is Ascrono Music's
Album of the week because of The Longpigs Surprisingly Established
sound and range of styles and emotions. If You Are a Rock Fan of any
type then we can guarantee there will be at least one song you enjoy
throughout the album
