Meroe are a hard rock band that bring
back the glorious sounds of the 80's rock scene. Oliver Monroe is the
lead singer, Alex K. is the bands guitarist, Andy Lorenz is the
drummer and Peter handles the bass guitar parts. The band have
released three albums, Zero (2002), Midnight Kisses (2009) and the
most recent, Sick Society was released in 2011 which we have a an
article on for our readers today.
“Wild tonight” begins the album
with a very upbeat rock intro, which turns into a flowing guitar
melody, the vocals have a dark tinge to them which adds to the
traditional rock and roll atmosphere. The guitar solo's and loud
chorus' really makes this into a fantastic rock and roll track.“last
day in paradise” begins with an almost graceful sounding intro, the
song focuses more on vocals and you notice that the voice has a very
rock suited sound, as its not too harsh on the ears but there is
enough grit in it to sound dark, the song takes a slight twist around
the middle as it becomes a bit lighter and less serious sounding but
it returns to the true rock grit in time for a spectacular ending.
“Here in my heart” has a very powerful intro begins the song with
a nice melody, the overall feel of the song is very established and
emotional, this is definitely one of the more heartfelt songs and the
lyrics are very poetic and romantic, the guitars really boost the
song as the chords really fit in perfectly with the lyrics There is a
good blend of instrumental and vocal sections which give the song a
good range to make this one of the best songs of the album.“Show
your love” 's intro is steady and it soon develops into the first
verse, the vocals sound very determined and strong. the guitar solo
sounds incredibly intricate and flowing, the chorus is very clear and
kind of rallies emotion inside of you, the song has a simple layout
but its very appealing to the ears and is very reminiscent of
traditional rock, In “Never Let You Go” a brisked paced intro
begins the song giving it a menacing feel, the song sounds really
busy but the chorus is very catchy and almost anthem-like. The guitar
solo sounds really choppy and lively which makes the song even
better, strangely there isn't really an individual part of this song
that makes it good, it just sounds fantastic all round.“Canadian
lady” has nice guitar melody begins the song, the vocals sound like
they are genuinely painful for the singer which really helps you get
into the song and feel everything, the atmosphere really starts to
build as the song progresses and you feel really involved and tense,
the rallentando that brings the song to an end is very dramatic and
the eerie sound that follows the ending drum fill sends a pleasant
shiver down your spine.
The band has set out to make a solid
rock album which brings back fond memories of the 80's and that's
exactly what they have done, it might not be everyone's cup of tea
but for true rock and roll fans this will be one of the best newly
released rock albums you will hear.
