Deadringer By RJD2 was his debut album
on the definitive Jux record label, the album is mostly hip hop and
is made up of samples from a range of songs, from tv series to some
of the Delfonics songs
The Album begins with “The Horror”
which has quite a eerie feel to it, the song mostly consists of a
voice saying “trying to understand the horror” the main feature
here is the music, which is fair paced and has a very catchy melody.
It doesnt really follow the traditional song set up in terms of the
vocals but it is still very interesting and enjoyable to listen to.
“Smoke & Mirrors” has a very stealthy sounding intro and
bursts into a full song, the vocals are very calm and almost
emotionless and they are accompanied by a range of noises floating in
and out. after an instrumental period, a female voice comes in and
the song becomes more eerie as most of the instruments drop out then
it fades in to silence. “Ghostwriter” is very bouncy and casual
featuring an acoustic guitar accompanied by a heavy beat, its a very
easy and relaxing song to listen to as various voices come in and out
at different stages. A trumpet part comes in later on and really
livens the song up. The song then plays around with violins and a few
other instruments and voices nearing the end of the song. “shot in
the dark” is a short song that is about a situation in which an
aggressive police officer arrests an innocent man, conversations in
songs are quite unusual and this one is is quite amusing to listen
to. “Silver Fox” is a mesh up of guitar, flute and xylophones. Its
very complicated sounding but when you get used to it its actually
quite relaxing to listen to. A soothing voices is placed on top of it
all soon after and a trumpet escorts the song out with a dramatic
crescendo. The album ends with “Before Or Since.” Leaping violins
begin the song and it soon jumps into a beautiful hip hop composition
with a heavy beat and a swooping melody on top of the violins. Soon
some trumpets come in with a fanfare and then the song returns to its
original theme which slowly starts to fade out and with it, so does
the album.
Deadringer by RJD2 is Ascrono Music's
album of week because of the unusual bringing abouts of the album
(All the songs consist mainly of samples) and how well they are
combined to produce good quality hip-hop tracks. There is also an
unusual range of instruments included which make the songs almost
unpredictable and completely unusual.
