Modern Life Is Rubbish

Modern Life Is Rubbish was Blur's 2nd Album which was released in 1993. It received decent praise at its time of release and peaked at number 15 in the UK album chart, the band went through a transformation due to the fall of Madchester, in which they became known as a britpop band.

The Album begins with “For Tomorrow” a casual sounding song that has an incredibly catchy chorus and is much easier to listen to than their debut album “Leisure.” ”Colin Zeal” begins with a galloping bass line which is the platform the rest of the song. The Song once again has a catchy chorus which really boosts the song, Albarn's verse lyrics are quirky and flowing which all together creates a slick and complete sounding song. ”Chemical World” describes the cheapness and flaws of society, this is one of the more serious songs but it still manages to be interesting and keeps the traits of the past songs. The hidden track “Intermission” which is attached to the end of “Chemical World” is jolly little piano tune which builds up and gets faster and faster until it completely caves in on itself, I thought this was a unusual but it was amusing and enjoyable to listen to. “Miss America” is quite different from the other songs as its spacey and there are more instrumental areas, the lyrics are a bit jumbled and don't make much sense, but the song is refreshing and sounds at ease with itself. “Villa Rosie” is much more lively and exciting than “Miss America” and it describes life at a pub. The chorus once again is exciting due to the guitars building up in between the verse in chorus. “Resigned” gently ends the album as it sounds quite sad and tired but a nice tune comes in and out which still keeps the listener interested even though the song does sound quite average. The recurring tune eventually carries the song out. The hidden track “Commercial Break” is rowdy and exciting and fast and mental and all completely scrambled. But , like its partner “intermission” it is a joy to listen to.

Modern Life Is Rubbish By Blur is Ascrono Music's Album of the week because at the time, it restored blur after a hard time, the songs are always attractive to listen to and the chorus' get stuck in your head . We would recommend this to all rock lovers as the blend of slow and fast and of happy and sad guarantee's excitement for all.
