Starsailor - Love Is Here
Love is here was Starsailors first
album released in 2001 and received high praise. The band consists of
4 members Ben Byrne (Drums) James Stelfox (bass) James Walsh (vocals
and guitar) and Barry Westhead (Keyboard) and overall have a fairly
acoustic sound with little effects and electronic input. They were
spotted when an NME writer attended their gig and after performing
at Glastonbury in 2000 they were eventually signed by EMI.
Starsailor's song topics and lyrics are
usually quite sad or serious and Walsh's voice does an incredibly
good job of bringing all the emotion across. Even though the songs
are gloomy the overall sound is lively and upbeat which is quite
unusual. The bands biggest hit “Alcoholic” displays this best.
While describing an alcoholic father the band manages to make the
music sound like part of a happy song like it was describing a party.
“Way To Fall” has a beautiful accompaniment that supports Walsh's
sad tale of woe. “Fever” has a laid back accompaniment to Walsh's
story of the fever on the highway and “Love Is Here”'s
accompaniment really brings out Walsh's pain and sorrow. They also
manage to put a catchy chorus in most of the songs which is a real
bonus especially when the lyrics randomly pop into your head.
Love is Here Is Our Album Of The Week
because of the variation of accompaniments that Starsailor managed to
produce throughout the album, It shows a lot of skill to be able to
almost completely change the atmosphere of each song and keeping the
same instruments throughout, it was also enriched by Walsh's
emotionally Powerful voice and therefore we would highly recommend a
listen.
