Kid A

Kid A by Radiohead was the bands 4th album which came 3 years after Ok Computer. Ok Computer had been a international hit and it came as a massive shock when Kid A appeared to have ditched the exciting lively rock set up and became mellower, more experimental and more abstract. In The Documentary "Reflections on Kid A" when asked of the change Thom Yorke Replied "It sucks fucking rock music sucks man I hate it,its all the methology that goes with it I have a real fucking problem with it."

The album begins with Everything In It's Right Place, which feels quite dark. Overall the whole album is dark and has little to make you smile about. All The songs demand you to listen as you strain your ear to try and make out every word Yorke sings. You soon realise the lyrics are broken and vague and make no sense to the casual listener. I suppose when listening to this it becomes impossible to be a “casual listener” anyway because the lyrics and even the eerie sounds make you think and immerse you in the layers of suspense, mystery and drama.

Bass guitar is featured in “The National Anthem” which creates a bassy tune throughout underneath the horrific wails of the saxophones.”Optimistic” brings back the guitars for a bit as they carry through to the next song “In Limbo” A More Disco-like approach comes next with “Idioteque” and the final song “Motion Picture Soundtrack” rounds the album off nicely with a gentle minor sounding accompaniment for Thom Yorke to sing out.

In my Opinion this is one of the key albums that Radiohead have produced because it marked a new direction in their musical path, they still showed glimpses of the old sounds while mixing them with new ideas that revitalised their sound after a tough time together and that is why it is Ascrono Music's Album Of The Week.
