Cordell Roper

Do you want to relive the good old days of rock n' roll with a touch of blues? Then look no further than Cordell Roper! Cordell Roper is an English artist who is heavily influenced by people such as Elvis Pressley and Robert Plant and bands like The Who and The Eagles. He mainly covers old style rock and roll and other iconic songs like Take It All by Adele and gives the listeners a fresh perspective on these old memorable songs

The first song I heard was “Who I Am” a cover of Nick Jonas and The Administrations song. Cordell's strong vocals controlled the song and brought about a lot of emotion and feeling. It reminded me of the earlier Kings Of Leon albums as Cordell and Caleb Followill both have commanding yet melodic voices. Cordell's Persona changes completely in the next song “Crying In The Chapel” an Elvis Pressley cover. Where he becomes much softer and gentle sounding and shows an incredible range in his vocal pitch. He then livens up another Elvis cover “Bluemoon” and makes the song much more compelling and exciting to listen to. He then moves to a blues set up with a cover of Gravity By John Mayer, Cordells voice has more tone and creates a fuller sound than Mayers so it makes the song feel warmer and easier to listen to. He continues the blues theme in a cover of Sh-Boom by the Chords this cover wasnt my particular favourite but it does show Cordell's versatility in vocals. He moves on to an uplifting version of Peter Gabrielle's hit Book Of Love, Which once again proves Cordell's range and skilled voice. The Last Song that has been covered is Take It All By Adele in which Cordell really resembles Elvis Pressley singing it. This was a nice version of the song to hear as Cordell does a good job in keeping the lyrics very rich and powerful like Adele in the higher notes.

I enjoyed listening to these versions of great old songs and it would be interesting to hear Cordell creating his own songs based on these influences as it would be interesting to see what he comes up with.
